What's Poppin' Ladiez (WPL) is an all lady popping battle in Seattle May 13-16, 2016.
Angel Langley (Moonyeka), the organizer, has been talking about this event for the last year, and I have been hella excited since she officially confirmed it was on. WPL is an event to celebrate female poppers and stems out of Angel's interest and research in the female experience in popping (research from the event will be included in her ethnographic project). I am super proud of her for putting together this event and flying in some dope ladies to battle, judge, teach and share their popping experience from a female perspective.
If you are unfamiliar with popping, Popping is a style of street dance in which a dancer quickly contracts and releases their muscles, creating a hit or pop. Popping originates from California during the 1970s, was heavily influenced by 1960s dance styles and was originally danced to funk music; think James Brown.
